Not Good as the Sunset Warrior Books 1-3
Not as good as the Sunset Warrior trilogy books 1-3. This book seemed rushed to get something out and the tie in to the Sunset Warrior is minimal. A fan of the Sunset Warrior so this was a big let down. Made myself read it since I spent money for it but would return it if I could. It's a Kindle book so I don't have to worry about dust on it sitting on my bookcase. Pass on this unless you really are bored.

Super fan!
I've been a super fan since Lustbader’s earliest books. Now years later I’ve been going back through them in amazement once again. There is nobody who writes as well as he does.

Good read but weaker of the series
My least favorite out of the series. Story is anti climatic. Kind of fizzles out.

Fine fantasy adventure
Lustbader blends very real characters with dynamic, surprising and imaginative adventures. While at times getting lost in descriptive details of fields and skies and trees, the story compels you to the finish. A satisfying read and fulfilling chapter in the series.

Great Read
Love this author. Enjoying the sunset warrior series. Have read ALL the Nicholas Linnear novels, hope he writes another full length book.

Good story!
A slow start, but then the book moved along very well. Enjoyed the story? A good addition to the Sunset Warrior trilogy.

Pretty good 25 years on
I first read this over 25 years ago. Strange reading it now in isolation from the original Sunset Warrior series where it was a book 4/spin off story. Reading it now, the over florid descriptions irritate now whereas before I thought they added to the quality of writing. The story now takes on a very different tone. There is a curiosity value to the geography, naming conventions and almost renaissance period descriptions. You can kind of place the Spanish, Norse and middle eastern peoples within the oriental layers, but not quite. It is genuinely fascinating but also unexplained. Pure fantasy. However, what I had almost forgotten was that the original Sunset Warrior series is set in some sort of future dystopia with Tecks and Neers (who look after the ancients machines like electric lights and air con), weapons of mass destruction, underground cities with (failing) lifts, etc.Beneath an Opal Moon carefully does NOT mention any such technology with perhaps the exception being the firemask. The story is interesting and exciting. There is genuine tension but I feel the story ends badly. One problem is that the Opal Moon story ends 84% into the "book". Which is a let down. The rest is a plug for a sequel (that I never new existed) and is awful. Tried for 20 mins then gave up.

The good guy wins in the end
I always like fantasy, but all the weird names are a bit tedious. As they're necessary it's easier not to try to pronounce them....just remember them. The violence is "part and parcel" of the story line and also true to any Lustbader.
