It's a winner for me.
After one gets burned enough buying the latest and greatest training device, one can become very skeptical when buying fighting gear. I made the plunge to purchase the Body Action System after seeing a couple of videos on Youtube.Bas whom I have never met isn't promoting this as an end all be all training tool, so there isn't a lot of hyperbole to wade through. From what I can see, it is a quality tool to serve as a training device to work on coordination, speed, power strikes, etc. In essence, it is the 24-hour bad boy, villain, bully, nemesis, etc waiting for a beatdown lol...and it can it take one.The springs on the unit are stiff and yet flexible and return back to the ready position after being struck, you don't have to wait for it to return to center, so powerful combinations delivered with speed and accuracy are no problem.I have hit the pads with and without gloves and I have never felt anything other than firm cushioning, therefore I have no fear of hitting something solid inside the focus mitt and hurting myself. The thoracic pad and head are such a pleasure to hit because they are heavily padded, firm and the spring is very responsive. When one hits this thing like Bas and his friends do, it begs the question, are they using a beefed up BAS?After me beating on this thing, I believe that mine is the very same high quality that Bas Rutten is hitting in his videos. The sandbags are double zippered (a smart move) and almost feel like there is a rubber coating in the interior of the bag. I filled mine with pea stone gravel from Lowes. These bags are great but are not meant to throw around and abuse. The weighted sandbags hold down the unit very well but I will be ordering an additional two.The BAS pole clamps have a plastic insert to keep them from marring the upright supports, and the clamps do their job well, once they are adjusted. Speaking of the units frame, it is covered with nylon pads and the generous heavy duty velcro can be a pain to pull apart, but that's just the way good quality velcro is supposed to work, thanks for not skimping here Bas Rutten and design team. With all of the hard metal parts covered by padding, it offers great protection if you happen to hit the frame and clamps.Bas Rutten offers down to earth and gimmick-free training as he promotes self-defense in an ethical way using great anecdotes and humor, with that said, his BAS is no joke and he should be proud of the quality build and affordability of his Body Action System.Don’t be put off buying the BAS because in the videos it may appear to be flimsy because when it is being hit, it’s being rocked. It is designed to absorb the energy of your strikes as they snap through the pads while offering resistance. In addition, the pads and springs go with the force you are exerting on them yet they instantly come back to the ready position faster than you can land your next strike. In this way, the user doesn’t injure themselves and this simulates working with a trainer using focus mitts. Consequently, this type of training is very effective for hand and eye coordination, footwork (yes you can move around the BAS striking from a multitude of angles) accuracy, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, and HITT.I have been into pugilistic studies since the 70's, and it never ceases to amaze me the high-quality training products made for boxing, while training aids for martial arts I have observed, lagged behind and had so low-quality stuff I call junk, but thankfully that started to change with the popularity of Kickboxing, Judo, MMA, Thai Boxing, Pancrase etc in the early 90’s.These combative arts practitioners want high-quality training gear based on fighting and are resilient for fight training. Now I own something that I can lay into that has articulating multi-strike zones, I don't need a person to assist me and lastly, I feel that it will last. The BAS is right on target for my home gym, but it would be at home at a martial-arts school or LEO/military training academy. It is also portable, so you can take it outside and beat the crap out of it while your neighbors stare in awe at your fighting prowess. I also like the introductory dvd with Bas Rutten working out on the BAS, I can workout alongside of Bas as he tirelessly does what he does great .... the "work."There are a couple of similar products out there but one of them cost four times as much and I haven’t tried them, but as you can tell, I’m happy with my purchase because of the portability, features and low cost. How long will the BAS last??? Everything breaks, spring weaken and sag, padding gets compressed and metal rust, but I have a feeling that myself and the most destructive force on the planet, my two daughters, will be enjoying the Bas for a long time.
