Seek the Power Within
Fascinating, I read the Simon Tregarth story when it was first published. Norton's world will strike you deeply with wonder and horror. There is some of the juvenile in various tales so be prepared to grow up in the lessons. I believe in the will to be better, rejecting trivial gifts greed and power always offer. Lessons for our time and as well as any other!

I'm torn
The stories are marvelous, the editing not so much. Especially the first book - there were constant mistakes, homonyms, as it the book had been dictated and never proofed. Too bad, Andre Norton deserves so much better than this.

This should have become a movie! A true classic, beginning a classic series.
Review by Mrs. L, not Mr). It's been a very long time since I read this, so my memory dates back decades. It should be sort of obvious that I think it's great stuff and worth rereading, since I tracked down a copy in paperback. I read mostly on a Nook nowadays, since I developed severe reactive asthma some years ago and am violently allergic to dust, mold and mildew -- hazards of working overseas for Uncle Sam where OSHA standards don't apply. I gave away all of my paperbacks and most of my hardbacks a long time ago, totaling 150 boxes! In spite of the sacrifice, as I get older I want to reread the books I loved most, like this one. I don't know why this book isn't available in Nook or other electronic format, but I'll keep my inhaler handy and take the risk soon to reread this classic. Basically the story is about one Simon Tregath, a world-weary, often betrayed man who no longer fits into his own world and is now being hunted. He takes a risk to step into the unknown, and finds himself in a whole new world where his skills and abilities (some of which he didn't quite know he had) can make a big difference.

Tale told by a master
For most of the last 60 years I've spent much of my time in other worlds.World's created from the imaginations of the greatest writers of my time: Heinlein, Asimov, Bujold, Hubbard, Mccaffrey, and more whose nes escape me at the moment. One of the greatest of these was Andre Norton, whose timeless tales live on to stretch the minds of more generations.

Andre Norton- The Best Still
As they were during her lifetime these books are outstanding and help the reader to follow the story line of Witch World. The storyline will never grow old and will always hold the reader to the last page. The Witch word series encompasses multiple story lines and generations but all are relevant. I hope new readers will take the time to read ALL of the books related to the Witch world, of which the three above are just a very small part.

Very purple prose, in a fantasy formulaic world
These books lack subtlety. That being said, they are pretty engaging, if you are OK with the plot being far, far more important than the individual characters- which tend to the cliche. It's not badly done- but it is pretty basic.Looked at outside the narrative, the Dark seems to- honestly- totally have all the advantages; the Light only precariously wins a conflict or two, and the Dark seems to have pretty much all the advantages. The warriors of the Light seem to be accepting aid from the Gray- which has rejected both the cliche Light and Dark, and is going its own way... except when it doesn't.These are pretty readable high-fantasy novels, but the underlying structure of the world does really bear much thinking about.

Andrew Norton
Andre Norton is forever the best. I have read her for years and still find that her stories are wonderful.

3 books in one.
This volume contains: Trey of Swords, Ware Hawk, & The Gate of the Cat.I loved Trey of Swords and The Gate of the Cat, but I found Ware Hawk okay.I liked the other two more. The author lets you watch the world unfold slowlyas you read. Enjoyed this! Must read.

A slightly unusual magical trail
And all the better for it 😀I enjoyed the tale as it is a little out of the usual - but not too far...Full of exciting twists and turns I can thoroughly recommend it, a great suite.

Andre Norton’s Witch World Series is one of my Favorites. This is set in the same world with new characters.
