This is the first Simon Scarrow book I have read and it won't be the last. If you enjoy books about ancient Rome or the Roman Legions, then you will enjoy Scarrow's book.Joe CorsoAuhor of Lafitte's Treasure

A 16 year old homeless youth saves a ship captain from footpads. The captain offers him a job on his ship. Soon, as one expects, they are attacked by pirates.This is a short and quick moving novel. It is interesting but may be more appreciated by younger, adolescent males.

Not a full novel to me. Not up to Scarrow standards. Plot is predictable. Reminds me of old time serials you used to see at the movies on Saturday mornings.

It's a quick read, but a constantly moving story. There's plenty of detail for the reader to imagine what sights and sounds, and as always Scarrow does battle scenes as well as any I've read.On to #2 in the series!

I was really looking forward to Scarrow's new book but have to admit I found it lacking when compared to others he has written. The book seemed a bit "juvenile" and the plot dragged.. Sorry Simon.

It was a very good read. It was nice different than Cato & Macro. The only down fall, it is short very fast read. Two days and I was finished.

Scarrow is a good story teller and this series is no exception. Well worth your time.

Great story by excellent author

Loved the story, pace and what comes next. Scarrow is the master and in the same style as his Eagle series.

The author has produced another of his excellent stories. It is a bit frustrating to get it in parts. Whether it is more economical than to buy the final product will depend on just how many parts there are. It must be noted that other new products from the author are exorbitantly priced for electronic products as is true for a number of other big-name authors. Although excellent products, you may want to consider whether they are worth the cost relative to other good authors who are less well known and a bit less greedy. I say this in spite of having almost all of this author's books in both paper and electronic form.

I was looking forward to this series, but the writing was childish at the least. There was no emotion at all, felt as though this was writen on the fly and not developed. Even though I bought the complete series, I stopped after 70 pages of the first book and will not be trying again.
