Magician: Master: Riftwar Cycle: The Riftwar Saga, Book 2

Epic Fantasy
One of the best fantasy series available. Highly readable, complex characterizations, and excellent world building. As you read the over 20 books in the series you actually experience cultural change, the growth of barrel ball and the introduction of restaurants being two examples. Given the choice between Middle Earth and Midkemia I would visit Midkemia.

Great Read
Of all the books I've read this series is by far the most rewarding and entertaining. Well worth the investment in time.

Loved Book 1, but skimmed a LOT of this
Very disappointed because I absolutely adored the character dynamics, comradery and story line of the Magician: Apprentice. Book 2 follows our beloved characters as they grow up, develop and move forward in the plot, we follow their very different trajectories. For me -- I enjoyed the core group of characters in Book 1, and they are spread out in Book 2 for quite a number of years. Their individual journeys are interesting and unique.... but IMHO this book is full of way too much "politics" ... war strategies ... feudal descriptions and also WAAAY too many characters with similar names (some are called by more than one name). The names and places thing got to the point where I wanted an index as there are in many fantasy books - I had to google places and names. I would say I skimmed a large portion of this book during war strategies and descriptions of how various places were "governed" etc. I'm talking pages, and pages and pages at a time -- I've never done that before. Towards the end of the book, the beloved characters are finally coming back together and I'll be reading Book 3 as long as the story turns back to characters and adventures and moral compasses.... instead of exhausting descriptions of feudal societies and command chains. Got 3 stars for brilliant and unique storyline/characters/writing. Earned a 4th star because the ending found our friends together again and there was nice closure for me - with a tease on what would be ahead. Lost lots of stars for how simply boring and unnecessary societal descriptions were that went ON and ON. Hopefully next book is better on track for my interests, because I adored #1.

A great story of adventure and intrigue
The characters continue to grow and develop from the first book. Some unexpected twists, fun exchanges and characters you get invested in make this a story you can read many times.

20 years or more since I read it and it’s still a favorite
It’s been 20 years or more since I read it and it’s still a favorite.Too bad the old RPG games that came out after this book (Betrayal at Krondor et.al) haven’t seen updates so they work on high resolution

Great read
Pug returns to the story finally, I missed him from the first book. No greater magician on two worlds. That is until the Rift was closed and Macro the black put in an appearance

Second (or third?) reading
I read this book for the first time many years ago. I believe I read it again a short time after the first but either way, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it again this time. It’s a thrilling book, with wonderful characters and multiple storylines that flow together to a very satisfying conclusion. I can’t wait to start the next one in the series.

Miniature size paperback - Great story 4⭐️
This rating is due to the book’s physical dimensions, NOT the story. This is by far the tiniest book I’ve ever owned. There is barely enough margin to hold it without my fingers covering the text. The description should have clearly stated this is a pocket sized book.

Really good condition
Great condition! The book is a sequel and if you liked the first one I'm pretty sure you'll love this one as well.
