2nd Edition, The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar

Great book not only for the SAT but for the Praxis Writing Core. I took my first test last month and I flunk the test. I felt lost and almost all the answers looked like there were no errors. I felt very bad and disappointed. However, I was determine to do better. I found out that the praxis core writing test is very similar if not identical to the SAT grammar test. I bought this book and read every chapter and strategy. I practice many hours for a whole month. Last week I took the test again and today I got my results. I pass. I went from 156 to 176. If you want to pass the praxis writing test this book is the best out there.

I gave one hour every day to this book for only three weeks. The results literally astounded me. On the May 2014 SAT I got a 630 in Writing, but on the October 2014 SAT I got an 800. Of course, it's important to work on practice tests from the blue book and go over them as well, but this book teaches every grammar rule you could possibly encounter on the test. Unlike other SAT books, it is very small and concise--not intimidating at all. I actually didn't even finish the book, I had two chapters left. I believe it is organized in order based on what shows up the most, and that benefitted me.

Great book in general, the contents are great and definitely raised my scores, but there are a few mistakes and the layout really needs improvement.

I have been using the "yellow book" as I call it, Meltzer's original Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar, with my SAT students. They all improve their writing multi-choice scores when we work through that book. Now I would recommend this edition even more since she has included more exercises. Originally there were heavy-duty chapters on Sub-Verb agreement and Tense and now she's added more practices to do mid-lesson, which helps a lot. She's also clarified lessons such as: "word pairs" and "pronoun-case" so they are even more reader-friendly.

Erica Meltzer has the ability to put her instruction into student--and teacher--friendly terms. It has been helpful to me, and I am an old-school, diagram the sentences, grammarian. Many younger teachers did not grow up in schools that presented the clear and detailed grammar lessons that I grew up experiencing, so I think it would be a great reference for them. Students will probably understand more about grammar than they ever have before, especially if their background has been shaky in this area. Well-done!

Buy this book if you need help with SAT grammar. It is full of strategies and specifics to look out for when trying to find grammar errors. I work with ESL students who will be taking the SAT at the end of this school year. I've found that the author's style lends itself well to students whose first language is not English and that says a lot about this book!

I got this book for my kid, this goes over only grammar, not the actual writing. Helpful yes, the best out there for the writing portion, no. I am looking for an additional book to go with this one.

My son got a 61 on the writing portion of the PSAT which equates to a 610 on the SAT. He used this book to study for the January SAT and got a 780, that is a 170 point increase in 3 months. He did better on the writing section than on math, and math is his strong point. He gives this book a 10/10 for helpfulness.

Awesome book to ace the grammar section as well as learn some intro grammatical concepts to use in writing.The teaching is great in here but buy something else to use as practice sections.

It is a very good book for helping you to prepare for the SAT grammer part test. If more thorough and in depth with more exercises, this book will become perfect.
