Ring Chime Pro

I first bought a Ring doorbell cam 4 and hard wire installed it. RSSI signal strength was around -65 which was ok but not good. Because RSSI is a negative number, the lower number the better. For example, the best RSSI is -59 to -1. I then bought the Ring Chime Pro and installed it in a wall outlet between the router and the doorbell. The app said, no good, find a different location. I tried three more locations, including a wall outlet inside the house located only about 8 feet from the outside doorbell. Signal strength still not good. Finally, I used an extension cord and located the Ring Chime pro on top of a dresser that is literally one foot from the doorbell, with only the house's outer wall between the doorbell cam and the Ring Chime Pro. At first, still no good! I felt defeated. But wait, there is more! I checked on it a couple of hours later and all of a sudden, the RSSI was great, it was -44.My conclusion is that do not be thrown off by an initial bad reading. Apparently it takes awhile either to establish the good connection and/or the Ring cam device only updates the signal strength report every so often. So now I conclude that it is possible that some of the other locations I tried may also work. To adequately test each location, I believe you need to install it and let it sit there for awhile. In the Ring app, go to the Ring doorbell cam settings, click on "Device Health" to see the current RSSI value, but also scroll down and to see the date and time of the last "Device Health Check." If that time is a couple of hours ago, do something to the doorbell cam to trigger it, like ring the doorbell, and then check device health again. I did this and the RSSI value changed for the better.It has now been over a week, and I am consistently getting an RSSI from the router to the Ring Chime Pro, and from the Ring Chime Pro to the Ring cam, of about RSSI-45, which is great.Other things: As other reviewers have noted, you truly can easily turn off the nightlight, the chime alerts, and even the little blue status light. In other words, you can easily make the Ring Chime Pro a completely dark and silent device whose only purpose is the signal strength boost. This is all I wanted because my doorbell cam is hard wired to my mechanical doorbell chimes and I don't need any part of it except the signal boost.Thus I give five starts to the Ring Chime Pro. I have not yet reviewed the Ring doorbell cam itself, but my comment on that is that if you have a brick house, like mine, and your doorbell is in a corner far away from your router, you will probably need to also pay $49 for the Ring Chime Pro, unless you already have a system of mesh wifi boosters.Also, the Ring Chime Pro is super easy to install. Assuming you have already installed the Ring app on your phone, you just plug the Ring Chime Pro into a wall outlet. Then you do have to wait a few minutes while the app sends a firmware update to the device. After that, the app will start giving you prompts that the location is no good. But if you feel the location is pretty good, I would wait, as described above, and see if the signal strength improves over time.

I purchased the Chime Pro on the chance that I needed to boost my WIFI signal and it was the right move. The signal was low but when the Chime Pro was activated it enhanced the signal to Strong! The added night light is a nice feature. So far it is working as advertised.

I have two of these that are working well with my Ring Pro 2 doorbell. Some have asked if they work along with your mechanical doorbell and they absolutely do. Please be aware that when I installed my doorbell I attached the included power adapter inside my old mechanical doorbell chime as the instructions require you to do. Also, my old doorbell transformer I measured at around 17 volts which I figured was enough according to the specs which say 16 to 24 volts required. However, the old chime wouldn’t ring plus the Ring app indicated some of the advance settings possibly may not work due to lower power supply than required from the transformer. When I bought the Pro 2 doorbell I also purchased a new transformer rated at a full 24 volts / 40A just in case which I installed and now app shows strong power to the unit, the old mechanical doorbell is ringing and I measure a consistent 24+ volts from the new transformer. I have one of the Chime Pros in the dining room and another Chime Pro out on the back patio and all chimes now sound correctly and system is perfect. The two of them have definitely increased the strength and wireless coverage for the doorbell. Without them the doorbell was struggling to connect to my home Wi-Fi but with these two Chime Pros they appear to significantly increase the range since the doorbell connects to the Chime Pro network which is connected to my home Wi-Fi thus increasing the signal range. I would recommend if you need to purchase a new, higher output transformer, you opt for the full 24 volt/40A type to avoid any possible low power issues. Being able to pick different chime alert sounds and adjust volume on them is also a benefit. Setup was easy, updated firmware was applied automatically when setting up and no issues. Make sure under “In Home Chime Settings” for the doorbell you have “mechanical” and “Ring In Home Chime” settings both selected and they’ll both work together. Highly recommend these chimes to work with your Ring system.

Works good and like the night light. My door bell still doesn’t record everything even though it has a good connection. So I’m not sure if it’s my door bells fault or the chime pros fault that’s the reason for 4 and not 5 stars.

The Ring Chime Pro took my home from “Did someone ring the bell?” to “I heard that from the bathroom with the fan on.” Not only does it amplify your Ring alerts, but it also boosts your Wi-Fi signal for your Ring devices—which is perfect if your doorbell was previously trying to connect from Narnia.Setup was ridiculously easy—plug it in, sync it up, pick your chime (yes, there are options!), and boom: your house now sounds like a classy hotel lobby every time someone shows up.It’s basically the Ring doorbell’s hype man. Clear sound, great range, and now I never miss a delivery, a visitor, or a chance to yell “just leave it by the door!" Also comes with a built-in night light which is a nice touch.

The ring chime pro is excellent. Not only it chimes the door bell sound, but the wifi extender works very well! It was able to connect to my flood light cam at the front of the garage where I was getting weak signal from my router. I went from RSSI -65 to -43 now! Highly recommend the chime pro, if you need the wifi extender to reach your security cams or door bell.
