Comfortable, and not too bulky
OK, so I lied a little in the title to this review, there really is no such thing as comfortable knee pads and I've tried them all. Everything from the cheap $10 leather pads to the several $100 multi-function space age high tech super contraptions. None are comfortable, some are more so than others, these being right up there at the top. The insides are filled with a firm but squishy gel that really cushions your joints well. The straps are easy to adjust and stay in place once you hook them. The outer surface is some kind of slightly squishy plastic material that seems to be pretty resilient. I do not think I would use these for roofing, I think the shingles would eat through them pretty quick...but I do not know this for sure having never tried them. If you are installing any type of flooring these are great, especially if it is a wood or tile floor that you don't want scratched from the hard plastic outers on many kneepads. On the top of the kneepad is some type of accordion pattern that is supposed to flex to keep them in place, I will tell you right now, they do not flex. They do stay in place though, very well, even when repeatedly standing and kneeling. To me, this is one of the most important features of good knee pads. Too many slip down every time you stand and quickly become shin pads, these do not.So to sum it up, these are good pads that are as comfortable as you are likely to find, they stay in place once secured, they cushion your knees very well, and they will not scratch delicate surfaces. However, I would not expect them to last long on abrasive material such as shingles. I did not knock a star off for this because it is just an assumption I am making.Overall I am very happy with these and would not hesitate to buy another pair if I ever needed them.

Good padding, but needs some changes.
Prior to getting these kneepads, I could only tolerate working on a concrete floor for 20-30 minutes before my knees would become very sore. With these pads, I can work on concrete, wood, tile, etc. for extended periods of time without any knee pain. These pads really absorb any type of impact. I can drop to my knees on a concrete floor and not feel anything. In addition, the outer surface of these pads is very well made and is holding up extremely well. Overall, I am extremely happy with the protection these pads provide.Unfortunately, there is one major design flaw that really bothers me. There is a rubber extension that covers the top of the knee and is supposed to "accordion" in and out as you bend/move. The straps that hold the pads in place attach to a knob on the ends of this extension. On the pair that I received, this rubber extension curls in severely and digs into the sides of my legs. I have tried warming them up and reshaping the rubber extension so that it doesn't dig into my legs, but it just returns to the its original shape. After only an hour or two of working with these pads, my legs are completely bruised. If I am wearing shorts, they literally cut into the skin. I would have given these pads 5 stars, but I just can't with this one flaw. As much as I really like the protection the pads provide, I may have to replace them with something else.If you get lucky and get a pair that the extensions don't curl in, you will love them. If you get them and they are curled, do yourself a favor and drop them back in the box and return them.

More useful than I imagined
I never thought I needed a knee pad since I consider myself to be quite young and healthy. Believe me, has nothing to do with that, I know now :)Pros:-Really durable..used on concrete, brick, stone, broken ceramic and glass, broken and chipped wood, all kinds of nasty environment. Nothing ripped-Comfortable enough BUT for short period of time (pls see cons below)-A little more on expensive side but to me, that's a pro since I believe I'm getting every penny's worth-Silicone or rubber straps r better than Velcro but that's also a little con (see below)Cons (or my thoughts on future improvements)-Could use more holes on straps. I either have to tie it too tight and leave marks on the back of my legs or too loose it would fall off. That's what I meant by comfort for a short period.-Comes off occasionally...why? Lemme try and explain...Mine came with one knee pad sort of "crushed". The notches on one side was permanently bent inwards, and I've tried to bend it back out but the rubber is so hard it'll just bend back. This causes it to come off sometimes if you kneel down real hard but that's pretty minor for me. Didn't bother returning it cuz too much hassle for such a small detail that I could live with.Thx for reading my 2 Cents...have a great day everyone!

$10 a year knee protection.
I only use these with my dickies. Never with shorts. Very comfortable. They slip a little. You can go from standing right to the floor. No pain. They are a little bulky not for running in. Gives good distance from floor. In case your working with water on the floor. They lasted me 3 years & two months of use. Used almost everyday. Would recommand.

Great cushioning. Could be built better
These are good comfortable knee pads. I am a contractor and wear these once every two weeks or so for 8 hours. I go through a few pairs a year because the little knobs that hold the straps are made out of plastic and they break pretty easily which is unfortunate would be nice to have them made out of a stronger material.

At my age, and my knee issues, I need the comfort and protection that these Dewalt All-Terrain Kneepads offer.Prospecting is my favored pastime, and with one partial knee replace, and my other knee screaming at me from time to time, the fit, comfort, and protection offered by these knee pads, is exactly what I required. Thanks for giving me the joy of kneeling for my work and my hobby. Well done Dewalt! Dave
