Prevents Neuropathy
Purchase 2 pairs of cold therapy mittens for my relative to prevent or minimize neuropathy from chemotherapy. Start wearing them 15 minutes before Taxol and wear them through Taxol. The problem with the mittens is the gel packs optimal coldness last about 20 minutes. I have my relative wear each pair for 30 minutes, then switch to ice bags. The mittens are comfortable, easy instructions. Cold therapy does work.

The best solution out there; I got some good hand pain relief. Satisfied with my purchase.
These mitts are obviously the best solution out there if you have hand pain. They are well-crafted from quality materials. They feel nice against the skin. The gel packs are shaped to fit the mitts. There's a gel pack on both sides of your hand. Each gel pack has its own pocket, and then your hand goes in the middle, protected by soft cloth on both sides of your hand. The gel packs are in soft pouches that seem somewhat flexible after a few minutes out of the freezer (unlike the typical ones that stay more rigid). They cover your entire hand, and for some, part or all of your wrist depending on how long your fingers are. Possible "cons": They come out of the freezer fairly rigid and it's initially a little hard to wiggle your hand inside, although they become more flexible after a few minutes. You need to freeze the whole shebang together with the gel packs already inside the mitts, because it can be a little difficult to get a frozen gel pack inside the mitt. It would be good if they made the flaps maybe half an inch longer to cover the ends of the gel packs more securely. The all-around coolness is great, but if you have really bad pain in your fingers you're going to want to hold the mitt with your other hand against your fingers to get the maximum coolness right where it hurts. Might be good to have a band of some kind to wrap around the finger part. A couple of good points: I put mine in the freezer for just one hour (usually takes around 5 hours they say) and the one hour made them moderately cool and I got some good relief right away. If you only have one hand that hurts, then you can have a second round with the other mitt later. You can also lay them on top of your forehead for a headache; these are heavy enough to stay put if you're lying down. And if you have a hurt on your knee you can simply lay your hand with the mitt on your knee and it does double duty, cooling both hand and knee. There is nothing else on the market that remotely compares with these mitts, and I highly recommend them. I got the smaller size because my hands are small/medium and there's plenty of room. They cost a lot, but if you have hand pain you will be satisfied with them.

Post-surgical hand swelling aid
After my elbow surgery, my hand swelled uncomfortably. I chilled these in the freezer and used them especially to sleep. My only issue was that the wrist portion was too narrow for me to get my hand into it initially. So, I would recommend to the company that they make an adjustable wrist. What I did in the beginning was to use both of them one on top and the other below my hand. As soon as I could fit my hand through the wrist, it was much more effective in cooling and soothing it. I was grateful for this product. I am not sure that it would be large enough for a man with large hands, but otherwise I would recommend it for post-elbow surgery or other instances where the hands swell painfully.

They work wonderfully.
I love these. They're great for cooling hands, and large enough to feel spacious inside while wearing. They cool quickly for reuse. Definitely a game changer if your hands are hot or need cooling caused by inflammation.

Wonderful!!
I use these for arthritis in my thumbs and swelling in my hands. They are wonderful. They stay cool for almost an hour. They are comfortable and easy to put on. They are well assembled. The gel packs are almost soft when frozen. They quickly begin to conform to you hand, once inside the mitten.I would definitely recommend.

How to help keep cold
Freeze the pads in the mitts overnight. Transport in a cooler with other ice packs to set these on and over. Put on at beginning of chemo. Place hands together as the cold diminishes. Lasted an hour plus If reading a book, you can change pages if you secure the last page with a clip to not lose your place as you fumble to change page. Important to keep the gloves away from your body heat. Rest one on arm of chair, other on the book.I bought two pairs of each, now, to make the switch over easy and faster when first pairs cooled down since my time was about two hours of chemo. So far no nueropathy. For foot pads, I found putting the heels of my feet against the chair really helped to hold the ice close to my heels. Since there is no other body heat, these pads lasted well over an hour.

Too cold at first, warm up in only 20 minutes
Tried these to help prevent neuropathy during chemo. I even bought the extra set of inserts. I freeze the gloves and extra inserts inside of ziplock freezer bags for at least 2 days before my infusion. I pack them into insulated bags with blue ice packs to keep cold right before we leave the house. Typically it 3-4 hours before I unpack them as Taxol which can cause neuropathy is the last drug infused. It takes an hour to receive the full dose. The gloves that were frozen with the inserts inside are too cold when I first don them, even with white cotton gloves underneath. They hurt my ring and little fingers badly. The way they are shaped they don't provide good icing for my thumbs. They don't stay cold nearly long enough, 20 minutes at most. When I put in the spare inserts that were frozen my themselves they aren't nearly as cold as only provide cooling for about 15 minutes. They're not super easy to change out either. It was a large investment for something that's not very effective.
