Excellent summation of ideological struggles
This is a set of books along the lines of the History of the CPSU (Bolsheviks) - Short Course, detailing and contextualizing the ideological struggles that have taken place throughout the history of the CPC. If you want to understand Marxism as the CPC applies it to building socialism this book is invaluable.

Thorough and Enlightening
This book is an excellent source of information about the transformation of the Communist Party of China, info that has been (and remains) kept largely under wraps. I’ll get into my review of the value of the content itself in a moment, but I’d be remiss were I not to first point out two things:* The quality of the books themselves is extraordinary. Covers, bindings, and even the box that holds the three volumes are all simply beautiful. Additionally, the bright pages and smart font choice make for an eye-friendly reading experience. While these things are always perks, they’ll be especially appreciated by students and researchers, who I’m certain will return again and again to these pages. Bravo!* The text is clear and uncluttered, complete without filler, and presented in such a way that English-speaking-only readers read and understand without struggle. I’m grateful for that because this comprehensive work could have been daunting, but was surprisingly not.Okay, onward…This reader opened Volume I with a rudimentary (at best—that’s probably a very generous self-assessment) familiarity with the subject matter. I am the product of well-funded American public education districts, but even benefitting from a reasonably well-rounded academic beginning, I had nothing more than a very basic “framework” understanding of the CPC’s many transitions over the past 100 years. As I worked my way through each volume—especially as I grew nearer and nearer to current times—I found myself comparing what was happening in China and within the CPC to what was going on in other parts of the world, especially in the U.S. Two world powers, each on their own sometimes precarious paths, side by side. While my American education was enormously anemic regarding world history, it was only marginally better about our own history. The information I was raised on was incomplete (which I would guess is equally true of most state-funded educational systems worldwide) and presented in ways that highlighted the strengths and ideals of not only our system of governing, but also our founders and other historical figures. “Facts” were cherry-picked to reflect the best in us, usually sprinkled with ample amounts of golden glitter, and often fully fabricated. Teaching this way is a disservice to truth, of course, and in my view brings unfortunate and potentially dangerous consequences. Only when we look at the past with clear eyes are we properly equipped to route the best map forward. One of the things I most appreciate about the information presented in this book is that it seems to be wonderfully straightforward and unvarnished.I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to read The Ideological History of the Communist Party of China. It provides a fascinating look at the ongoing transformation of the CPC and gives readers perspective that has been, until now, largely impossible to access. Our world continues to grow increasingly interconnected and requires us, more than ever before, to seek and provide both understanding and transparency. I will be lending this extraordinary set to my oldest granddaughter, who, coincidentally, is studying the history of China right now. Thanks to these information-packed volumes, her education will be far more complete than mine was.

This is a beautiful volume as well as a wealth of information.
This volume is well crafted to be informative for the scholar, as well as the uninformed/uneducated, in Far Eastern culture and history. I found my very deeply held Western Democratic ideals and values challenged as the author carefully laid out the transformation of economic and political thinking in China's "ideology and cultural awakening." It made me more conscious of the approach to national history in my own education, as well as the self-protective thought process inherent in any revolution. I found myself constantly comparing Democracy and Communism in the evolution of a revolt against oppression to a poliltical system of power and self-preservation. This was very informative and thought-provoking.The 3 book set is a beautiful additon to any library.

Very Informative Look from Inside the Party at its Own Ideological Development
This book is quite focused on a specific aspect of the history of the Communist Party of China, the history of the development of its ideology. It is a very informative book written by important figures within the Party, so it offers a unique insider's view.It is a long 3-volume series, starting from the founding of the Party and going all the way up through the early part of this century. It covers all the major advances in the development of the Party's ideology, with some parts being examined in great detail. There are a few sections that are addressed on a more surface level, but its coverage of troubling periods like the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution are surprisingly in-depth.Overall, it is very informative and insightful. It's an excellent resource for anyone who is interested in truly understanding the history of modern China.

An excellent collection of books
When I received my set of The Idealogical History of the Communist Party of China, I was very impressed foremost with the quality of the books themselves. Bound in high quality fabric and encased in a protective display box, it is clear they would survive an accidental knock off the shelf. Second, the books themselves present an enlightening dive into the history of the CPC and how China rose from an impoverished, feudal-controlled nation to the powerful economy it presents today. If you are interested in learning the many details about the CPC and its rise to power in China, this collection of books is for you.
