great for budding improv artists
this book is a versatile collection of arrangements of common worship songs. the solo and accompaniment parts allow for a little improvisation, and would be a good start for someone who likes to see a riff written out, but wants to try improv. some arrangements get repetitive if this is not done. some arrangements are a little on the long side. it would be best for a young high school jazz student, or for the church musician who wants something that can pull together quickly for the service. the accompaniment requires that the pianist be excellent at reading difficult rhythms and familiar with latin, jazz, folk, blues, and CCM idioms. there is also the option of adding drumset or additional instruments, including pennywhistle/recorder, guitar, etc. these are real crowd-pleasers - my husband and i get nothing but positive feedback when we perform them.
