Really heartfelt and a great read for 13 year olds!!
My son, 13, is reading this book in his virtual ELA class. I happened to ask what it was about and bought the book. Short by my standards, considering my last book was 1500 pages, but a truly awesome story. So many feelings involved and it is amazing how the author wrote the book. From the perspective of a 12 year old that is all about helping his family! While learning some hard lessons about himself and the world! Definitely recommend!

Moving and powerful. A great read.
Wow. This book! It's so much more than I thought it would be.Timothy is on probation and house arrest and the story is told in verse, through journal entries to his probation officer and therapist. You find that Timothy is an amazing kid who adores his single mother, and his brother (who seems to suffer from cystic fibrosis) even more. It's a sad story about poverty, class, medical care/costs, and crime and how all of these things are connected. I'ts a very fast read, perfect for any reader, 4th Grade through adult.Well done.

A great read for anyone!!
Quick read. LOVE LOVE LOVE this book. Really teaches understanding and compassion. It was funny and sad and touching and just a really wonderful book. I listened to it on audio book and loved it enough I had to purchase a copy for myself (new and excellent condition). I think it would be great for "tough" kids, good kids, bullies, anybody. I am a middle school teacher and would love for my students to read it, and I also asked my husband to read it! It's great for anyone, I'd say 12 to 112. :)

Wow
Seriously, everyone needs to just read this book. Unless you live with a medically fragile child.... in which case you might want something less reflective of your life. I was intending to just skim this book to make sure it was ok for my 11yo, but I got sucked in and finished the whole, and cried most of the way through. This is what literature should be. The use of verse was spot on and brilliant. I can't wait for my son to read this.NOTE TO THE AUTHOR, should she ever see this: You are an amazing author. Really... kids need more books like this one. Heck, everyone needs more books like this. You make the world better with your writing...please don't ever stop.

Heart wrenching
This book came out of no where and broke my heart into a bazillion pieces. I found the kindle edition on sale through one of my deal emails. I almost never read a book right after I get it (ridiculous, right?) but I started House Arrest because I was curious, and I did not put it down until I finished it around 24 hours later.Timothy and Levi have the same age gap that my sons do. Almost exactly the same. And for the entire book, I could not stop comparing my children to Timothy and Levi, in the best and worst ways. I cried from the beginning until the end. Life just isn't ever fair, is it? I am looking forward to the companion book/sequel so I can find out how Timothy made it out, but also to learn more about this family!

I cannot read this book again. AMAZING
So having four kiddos. Anderstanding the hard knocks this kid lives in his head, no way I can read it again. Amazingly set and put together. So simple and yet complex. Daughter is reading it in the start of sixth grade so I bought a copy to give it a once through. I'm not sure my heart could take reading this with the class but I guess I have more life experiences which make it so much harder than a sixth grader. Good thing really.Couldn't put the book down. I was hanging on every word. The ending left me expecting at least one more chapter but instead my jaw hit the ground. Seriously I kept flipping back and forth to make sure I didn't miss pages stuck together or something (was an e-book)

Great Read Aloud for Teachers!
Our class recently read House Arrest by K. A. Holt. Timothy, the main character, has a brother who is very sick. Timothy makes a bad choice to try and help his brother. This choice ends with him under House Arrest. If House Arrest were made into a movie, we would give it a PG rating. The book is 296 pages long. We would give this book a 4.5 star rating because of the cliffhanger ending. This book is available online through amazon and can be found at your local library.P.S. Do not attempt some of Timothy’s choices at home

Beautiful and deceptively simple
The poetic language makes this a fast read, but it packs a huge amount of humor and heart in a small number of words. The narrator is a believable and highly likable kid. Don't make the mistake of reading it in a public place, though-- I found myself sitting in the airport, trying hard not to cry.
