Great gift
I bought a bunch of Easy Rawlins' novels as a Christmas gift. The receivers loved them. I even read a few while when they arrived and enjoyed them. Some were tricky to follow, but I still enjoyed the stories.

Backstory on Easy and Mouse
I enjoyed learning more about the early lives of the two main characters. For me it further enriched the universe of Mouse and Easy, and added to my understanding of their lives.

I like Walter Mosley
I like Walter Mosley. He is real. I can relate. His depiction of what it means to be black in in the forties is applicable to life today, if you look beyond the facade. Have things really changed?

great book
love all of the easy rawlins mysteries. each one is a great story and walter mosley is excellent at describing the scenes. you really get a feel for the room easy stands in or what the person he is talking to looks like. a great read.

It Explains A LOT
I now have a better understanding of Mouse and Easy. This book shed a lot of light on some of the mystery of these characters.

Five Stars
Great read, should have been the first book to introduce the characters and their backgrounds.

It’s a No from me
Prequel to the series.Solid start with good build up to the back story that’s been alluded to in the earlier books. But (for me), it’s just meanders along and fades out.Large tracts of dialogue don’t help. And really all the events have been mentioned in the other books so there seems nothing extra here to add to the characters going forward.I five starred the previous book (Little Yellow dog), which truly is a great book.So a very disappointing read this time.

easy rawlins is unforgettable.
This was my second read by Walter Mosley and my first easy Rawlins book.I absolutely loved easy and found him a very believable character. all the characters description is on point and you are intrigued by them individually especially mouse!I have already begun to purchase the others in the easy Rawlins series and was surprised to see it was a movie staring Denzel Washington as easy (will be checking this out).

A thrilling read, full of strange but convincing characters in 1930s Louisiana
This Walter Mosely book in the Easy Rawlins series is listed as no 6. but it is obviously a flashback because it goes back to what seems like Easy's first adventure with his evil friend 'Mouse' when Easy was only 18, living in Houston and illiterate. It also describes his first encounter with the witch Mamma Jo. It's a thrilling read, full of strange but convincing characters Easy meets whilst on a road trip in the Bayou area of Louisiana.

Even so it was beautifully written.
His book 'A little Yellow Dog' is more to my taste. Even so it was beautifully written.
