Better to use a pre filter. Will increase the life of the machines internal filters. The internal filters are very costly. But the pre filter replacement is really cheap and can be done by oneself easily every 2 months.

Q: Does it waste water? And also does it absorb fine particles?

No not at all. It does not waste a single drop of water. Also, it gives the pure distilled water.
