Cane Sugar delight
Since Cane Patch is no longer available this was a perfect substitute. It’s sweet, thick in texture and great value for a larger can.

I missed my cane syrup...until now
Growing up in the deep south, I was raised on cane syrup. I had an uncle that owned a fairly large farm in north-central Florida. He raised cattle and had a sugar cane crop. He made his own cane syrup the old fashion way with a mule walking in a circle to turn the grinder that harvested the cane juice from the stalks. What was left of the stalks went to feed for the cattle. The juice from the cane was strained and filtered into a large black cauldron that was sitting on a burning pile of hardwood logs to boil down to cane syrup. When I moved from Florida in 1967 it became impossible to find good and pure cane syrup unless we were back in Florida on vacation and visited some backwoods grocery store that still sold it for the local farmers. My wife was on a trip earlier this year and one of the stops was at a small country store in Louisiana where they had the Steens in stock. She knew I loved it and that the other "original" cane syrups we had found in the past were cheap substitutes or were mixtures of mostly corn syrup with some cane syrup in the blend. The Steens is PURE cane syrup and cooked to perfection. If it is left to cook too long it turns into molasses and isn't the same. The Steens is great on pancakes, waffles, and biscuits a is one of the main staples for southern pecan pies. If you have never had cane syrup before you owe it to yourself to give this a try. If you grew up with and love cane syrup you should not pass this up. Buying it in the bottle is more expensive but easier to keep. We kept one of the 16-ounce bottles from the wife's original purchase and are pouring the syrup from the 12-ounce cans into the bottles.

Like from my youth
This is not the best I've ever had, but it's MUCH better than Brer Rabbit, and not so grunged-out as molasses. THe best I've ever had came straight from the plantation, and it was what they reserved for their friends . But this is very good. I love it on pancakes [which i make very eggy, almost like crepes]; it would also be good on ice-cream, and in any rum drink that wants a brown-sugar taste.

I remember this taste when I was young and the taste has not changed. Thank you for sharing and will order more when I run out.
